Autodesk & Amazon: Reshaping Design and Engineering in the Cloud

At Autodesk, we’ve always been big believers in the transformative power of the cloud. Its ability to connect people and ideas while delivering immense computational power at a fraction of the cost is truly game-changing. Simply put, the cloud is revolutionizing how businesses operate and how the world creates and builds. For years, Autodesk has been at the forefront of this shift, thanks in part to our partnership with Amazon Web Services (AWS). Together, we’ve helped lead the charge as cloud computing has grown exponentially. One of our earliest ventures into this space was AutoCAD 360, a web and mobile CAD application that lets millions of users generate over 600,000 unique drawings each month. It's amazing to think about how far we've come since launching that tool just six years ago. Our Tinkercad platform, aimed at beginners of all ages, has seen incredible growth too. With over 25 million designs created and an average of 50,000 new ones added daily, it’s clear there’s a strong appetite for accessible 3D modeling tools. Meanwhile, our A360 cloud collaboration platform sees over 1.5 million files uploaded daily, showcasing the growing reliance on cloud-based solutions in creative and technical fields. Of course, none of this would have been possible without the support of AWS. Their cloud infrastructure has allowed us to scale our most demanding applications securely and efficiently, ensuring they’re accessible anytime, anywhere. By leveraging AWS, our customers can essentially rent the computing power they need, adjusting their usage based on project demands. Whether you need a simple server for a short period or something akin to a supercomputer for complex simulations, AWS makes it both feasible and affordable. This approach not only cuts costs but also drives innovation. Industries like aerospace and construction are already seeing the benefits. Take Airbus, for instance. They worked with us to develop the world’s largest 3D-printed airplane cabin component, known as the "bionic partition." Using generative design powered by AWS, they created a structure inspired by nature—lightweight yet incredibly strong. Similarly, JE Dunn Construction uses AWS and BIM360 to foster seamless teamwork on major projects, enhancing efficiency and productivity. As Amar Hanspal, SVP of Products at Autodesk, noted, "AWS has been crucial not only in powering our current workflows but also in shaping the future of what we do." He emphasized the potential of our Forge platform, which connects various aspects of the design and construction process through cloud services. Forge empowers developers to create smarter, more connected applications that enhance everyday work. To explore more about how these technologies are shaping the future, check out this video: [link]. It’s inspiring to see how far we’ve come and where we’re headed together. The cloud isn’t just changing industries—it’s redefining them entirely.
