Autodesk expands presence in on-set production, closes acquisition of production management solution PIX
Autodesk has officially completed its acquisition of PIX, a leading production management solution. This move marks a significant step forward in expanding Autodesk’s footprint in the on-set phase of media and entertainment (M&E) production. By integrating PIX into its ecosystem, Autodesk is making it easier for teams to share data across the entire production pipeline, reducing redundancies and improving overall efficiency.
The integration of PIX’s expertise and extensive industry network with Autodesk’s cloud-based tools and resources will enhance customer experiences and streamline workflows. This collaboration is expected to create a more connected environment where data flows seamlessly from the set to post-production, ensuring that critical information is not lost in fragmented systems.
Efficiency has long been a major challenge in the M&E industry. Assets are often recreated, data is stored in incompatible formats, and key details can get buried in complex file structures. These issues lead to rework, wasted time, and increased costs for customers. To address these pain points, Autodesk is developing Flow—a cloud platform designed specifically for the M&E sector. Flow aims to unify data, workflows, and teams in the cloud, enabling smoother collaboration throughout the production process.
Two years ago, Autodesk began exploring opportunities beyond post-production, recognizing that much of the essential data is generated on set. However, the disconnect between on-set and post-production has often led to inefficiencies. With the acquisition of PIX, Autodesk is accelerating its efforts to bridge this gap, bringing studios closer to the digital workflow and improving transparency across the board.
By connecting PIX’s production management solution with Flow, Autodesk ensures that data captured on set reaches all stakeholders—production teams, studio executives, and beyond—more efficiently. This integration will support better decision-making, reduce delays, and foster greater collaboration across the entire production chain.
