This is from Larry Shapiro: The Winnetka Fire Department was called to a house with smoke coming from the attic at 924 Pine Tree Lane just after 9 PM on Wednesday evening. However, prior to the arrival of firefighters, police confirmed smoke at the corrected address of 910 Pine Tree Lane. As the first engine arrived, it was immediately engulfed in thick smoke with nearly no visibility. The crew pulled past the house and maneuvered the truck up to the driveway. The scene was described as a split-level home under renovation, with heavy smoke indicating a significant fire. Firefighters attempted an interior attack, but as flames spread through the roof from the rear, the operation was quickly abandoned. Winnetka Truck 28 at work as fire consumes the entire house. As the fire grew, a Box Alarm was declared, and an elevated master stream was deployed from Winnetka Truck 28, along with multiple hand lines. Northfield Truck 29 also joined in with their own master stream. The house backs up to Tower Road, and units from Glenview and Skokie were stationed there but did not deploy their streams. Ladders from both departments were placed over the scene to provide critical lighting for the firefighters. Fire consumes the entire house. Truck companies from Winnetka, Northfield, Glenview, and Skokie were also on the scene. Additional support included a squad from Morton Grove, an ambulance from Wilmette, the MESS Canteen, and several chief officers. A few firefighters were seen covered in a light layer of ice due to the cold weather and water spray. Another view from the driveway as Truck 28’s master stream works.
