Fire service loses a friend, Wayne Stuart
I just received some devastating news that has left me completely heartbroken. Wayne L. Stuart, who had been such an important part of our community for so long, passed away suddenly on August 25, 2020, at his home in Orland Park. He was only 71 years old.
Wayne had lived in Orland Park for the past 30 years, but before that, he was from Calumet City. Most people around here knew him either from his days as a firefighter or from the countless interactions they'd had with him later in life. Wayne spent over 40 incredible years serving others—first as a firefighter in Calumet City and then as a lieutenant for the Skokie Fire Department, where he retired in 2007. Even after retiring, Wayne stayed active in helping people, working at Kurtz, Anderson, and Goodale Funeral Homes, driving funeral cars and welcoming families into their homes during difficult times. He also volunteered on the Senior Citizen Advisory Committee in Orland Park.
He is survived by his loving wife Sandra Stuart, his sister Barbara Stuart, and several nephews and great-nieces and nephews. It's hard to put into words how deeply loved and respected Wayne was by everyone who knew him. His sudden loss leaves a huge void in all of our lives.
Due to the ongoing health crisis, Wayne's family has decided to hold private services. But if you're reading this, I hope you'll take a moment to remember the kind, generous man he was. Let's honor Wayne by keeping his memory alive in our hearts and continuing to care for one another as he always did.
Rest in peace, Wayne. You will never be forgotten.
