Remembrance Rescue Project – FDNY R5

Scott Nacheman discovered the FDNY Rescue 5, one of the original rescue trucks that was stationed at the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001. The vehicle was being restored in Northbrook as part of the Rescue Remembrance Project. Earlier, we shared stories about other units, including X-FDNY R-4, which had also been acquired for the project. This latest acquisition marks the final remaining rescue truck from the 9/11 attacks. Below are some photos of the restoration process:

According to the Rescue Remembrance Project: > "In December 2011, the Remembrance Rescue Project acquired the last of the Rescue trucks from 9/11, Rescue 5. It was brought to our Chicago facility and is currently undergoing restoration. The truck will be unveiled at FDIC in Indianapolis this month. The Rescue has recently been repainted by Capital Truck Body in Cicero and is now at MPC Lighting in Northbrook for the installation of new lighting. Jacquette Custom Lettering is handling all the striping and hand-painting of the original Rescue artwork. The goal is to restore the truck as close to its original condition as possible, preserving its historical significance and honoring the firefighters who served on it." This effort not only preserves a piece of history but also serves as a powerful tribute to those who lost their lives and the brave men and women who responded on that tragic day.
