A man was rescued after being trapped up to his waist in a grain bin at Minooka Grain, Lumber & Supply Co. on West Mondamin Street around 12:45 p.m. on Thursday. Firefighters from approximately 20 departments worked through the afternoon to carefully remove grain from the silo, successfully freeing the man just before 4 p.m.

The individual was conscious and breathing during the operation and reported feeling well afterward. A Vac-Con vacuum truck was deployed at the scene to help clear the grain around him, making the rescue possible. According to the National Agricultural Safety Database, it can take as little as two or three seconds for someone to become stuck in flowing grain, with full submersion occurring within about 10 seconds.

This incident highlights the dangers of working around grain bins, where even a momentary lapse in attention can lead to life-threatening situations. The quick response from local emergency services played a crucial role in ensuring the man's safe recovery. Photos from the scene show the scale of the operation and the seriousness of the situation. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and the man was able to walk away from the incident with minimal distress.
