In the manufacturing industry, maintenance of electric spindles is a big problem: more than 1 million yuan is needed to buy a new electric spindle; subcontract maintenance costs more than 200,000 yuan, and the warranty period after repair is only three months. The technical difficulty in maintenance is on the spacer in the middle of the bearing – the standard of 2 μm is required to achieve the plane accuracy and parallel accuracy. This accuracy is equivalent to 1/35 of the thickness of a hair. Insufficient accuracy will reduce the service life of the bearing and cause the bearing to be scrapped. According to reports, the accuracy range that can be achieved by currently used machines in the industry is 5 micrometers, which once represented the top level of domestic civil machine tools.

In the 24 years of his career, Gu Jian carefully studied more than 20 kinds of machines and more than 300 machines in his factory. Numerous spacers are just grinding. The maintenance accuracy has been practiced from silk to micrometer for 5 years, and from 5 micrometers to 2 micrometers for 10 years. Gu Jian relied on self-maintenance to solve the technical problems of equipment maintenance, greatly improving the performance of equipment and the service life of the production line. Focus on innovation and break through

With the construction of a smart factory, in 2013, two new advanced production lines were introduced at Huishan New Base of Xichai. The new technology of electric spindle was adopted. Last year, the service life of the electric spindle was reached and maintenance was needed. However, the subcontract maintenance cost more than 200,000 yuan and the maintenance cycle was long. After 2 to 3 months, Gu Jian and his team discussed and decided to complete the maintenance work independently.

Without the risk of drawings or any spare parts, Gu Jian led his team to lay down this “hard bone”, which not only solved the accuracy requirement of the flatness and parallelism of the spacer in the bearing 2 microns, but also found out each time of fever. All of them are rear-end bearing burns, and the bearing steel balls are replaced with ceramic beads that can withstand higher temperatures, filling the gaps in the maintenance technology of imported electric spindles, saving annual maintenance costs by more than 3 million.

In 2016, Xichai established Gu Jian Lao Model Innovation Studio. The studio includes three core teams: electrical maintenance, mechanical maintenance and process manufacturing. It is led by Gu Jian. Not only does it have a complete equipment maintenance training system, but also the personnel are the technical backbone. It is the incubator base for Xiechai to cultivate highly sophisticated equipment maintenance and compound talents.

As a master, Gu Jian has his own thinking on how to cultivate talents better. He proposed a training mode in which multiple workers such as lathes, model workers, milling cutters, and fitters were jointly trained. Not only did they improve their personal skills through practical training, but they also trained the team's ability to collaborate in the course of the project.
