On August 24th, Ukraine celebrates its Independence Day. It's also the day marking six months since Russia launched its unprovoked invasion of the country. For Delfast, a Ukrainian-founded startup, this has been an incredibly challenging time. Over the past 182 days, our team has faced evacuations, living in shelters, becoming refugees, and enduring emotional trauma from being separated from loved ones. Despite these hardships, we haven't stopped working. In fact, we've adapted and innovated—developing new manufacturing and shipping solutions, as well as creating cutting-edge bike technologies for future models. Beyond our work at Delfast, every team member has contributed in their own way to support the people of Ukraine during this difficult time. For us, it’s a deep sense of duty and love for our homeland. Ukraine is still home to over 30 Delfast employees, each with their own reasons to stay and fight for their country. Here are some personal stories from our team about why they love Ukraine. “When I started developing the Delfast business model in Ukraine over seven years ago, it was a perfect fit. We always found skilled professionals who were not only hardworking but also like family. Even now, in these tough times, it’s amazing how we continue to support each other.†- Serhii Denysenko, COO After sending his family to safety, Serhii returned to Kyiv and has been there since March 3, 2022. He’s been delivering essential supplies to Hostomel and helping an elderly neighbor. He believes that emotional support is just as important as material aid during crises. “We’re proud to have created the iconic Delfast e-bike in Ukraine. But our country offers much more—AI, educational tech, fashion, smart homes. Visit Spend with Ukraine to discover the incredible innovations with Ukrainian roots.†- Serhii Dovhopoly, CTO As part of the Ukrainian IT Army, Serhii has been working on web platforms that support cybersecurity and counter-propaganda efforts. He’s actively involved in defending Ukraine through technology. “Before the war, I used to travel to recharge. Ukraine’s landscapes are stunning—rolling hills near Kyiv, the Carpathian Mountains, and the Black Sea. These places will be ours again.†- Olena Matsueva, Head of Customer Care Olena sends supplies to the front lines, including homemade cookies and drawings from her daughter. She believes small gestures can make a big difference for those fighting for their country. “Kyiv is beautiful—quiet streets amid busy city life, and high-tech districts after historic neighborhoods. We won’t let Russia take our cities.†- Viktoria Bardyk, Head of Logistics Viktoria coordinates humanitarian aid from Europe and has returned to Kyiv despite having to flee initially. Home is where the heart is. “When something threatens Ukrainians, we act. Our team has shown resilience by continuing to innovate and volunteer. We are determined to keep moving forward.†- Daniel Tonkopi, CEO Daniel works with US officials and activists to raise awareness about the impact of the war. He’s a founding member of ULAW and actively supports Ukraine from Los Angeles. “I’ve lived through war before. But here, in Ukraine, I’ve found a home. This is worth fighting for.†- Fedir, Sales Manager Fedir helps evacuate people and supplies equipment to defenders. He sees his work as a way to give back to those who helped him. “Goodness is inside us all. Delfast connects people across borders, uniting them through mobility and purpose.†- Joseph Konrad, Customer Support Team Lead Joseph delivers medical supplies and tech to Ukrainian defenders and secures support from international partners. He believes in global unity and collaboration. Our team continues to support Ukraine in many ways: donating bikes, participating in rallies, serving on ‘Support Ukraine’ initiatives, and contributing 5% of sales to humanitarian efforts.
