ABB receives orders for Russian Baltic Shipyard

Zurich, Switzerland, October 1st: ABB, the world's leading power and automation technology group, recently received an order from Russia's Baltic Shipyard to supply electric propulsion and energy efficiency to a new icebreaker being built for the Russian state-owned shipping company Rosmorport FSUE The power system, valued at $35 million, was placed in the third quarter of this year.
This 25 MW diesel-electric icebreaker is a new generation of multi-purpose vessels. The working area is the European North Sea route, the Arctic Ocean and the tributaries. It can be advanced forward and backward at a speed of 2 knots. The operating environment is 2 meters thick. The temperature is as low as minus 35 degrees. With ABB's Azipod propulsion system, 20% fuel savings are available, the system is expected to begin delivery in 2013, and the new vessel is expected to be delivered in 2015.
