Garage fire in Crystal Lake 11-22-12
On Thanksgiving Day, a fire broke out in a house in Crystal Lake due to a malfunctioning deep fryer. According to a report by the Northwest Herald, Jon Ring was attempting to warm up the deep fryer in his garage in preparation for the family’s Thanksgiving dinner at their home on 707 Windsor Drive. His wife, Kim Ring, mentioned that it was quite windy outside.
"I went outside and immediately smelled the smoke," she recalled. "I instantly knew it was coming from the garage and rushed inside to warn everyone. I shouted, 'The garage is on fire! Everyone get out!' It was a terrifying moment." Jon Ring had been deep frying turkeys for over 15 years, so this incident was particularly surprising.
The Crystal Lake Fire Rescue Department estimated the damages from the fire, which included extensive heat, smoke, and water damage, to be around $80,000. They released a statement detailing the extent of the damage. Additionally, fire departments from nearby McHenry Township and Woodstock provided assistance during the emergency response.
