A fire broke out at a house in Crystal Lake on Thanksgiving Day due to a malfunctioning deep fryer. As reported by the Northwest Herald, the incident occurred around noon when Jon Ring was attempting to preheat the deep fryer in preparation for his Thanksgiving dinner at their home located at 707 Windsor Drive. Unfortunately, strong winds were blowing that day, which likely exacerbated the situation. According to his wife, Kim Ring, she noticed the smoke and immediately smelled something amiss. She quickly informed everyone inside to evacuate the premises, shouting, "The garage is on fire! Get out!" Jon Ring had been deep frying turkeys for over 15 years, so this incident was quite unexpected.
The Crystal Lake Fire Rescue Department assessed the damage, estimating it to be approximately $80,000, which included heat, smoke, and water-related damages. In addition to the local firefighters, teams from McHenry Township and Woodstock also assisted in managing the blaze.
