Just saw some exciting updates from the Darien-Woodridge Fire Protection District's Facebook page! They're welcoming a brand-new addition to their fleet—a gorgeous Horton Type I ambulance built on a Ford F550 chassis. This beauty is massive, measuring 307 inches in length and weighing a hefty 14,968 pounds. The district mentioned that it will be ready for action on the roads in just about two weeks, and they promised to share more photos as the official in-service date approaches.
I couldn't help but check out the photos of this impressive vehicle. It looks sleek and modern, perfect for handling emergency situations efficiently. The Darien-Woodridge Fire Protection District really knows how to upgrade their resources.
On a side note, they also bid farewell to their trusty old Medic 614, a 2006 International Lifeline ambulance that had logged 140,000 miles over its service life. Since 2012, this ambulance had been serving as a reserve unit, providing reliable backup whenever needed. It's always bittersweet to see such dedicated vehicles retire after years of faithful service. I’m sure the new one will continue their legacy of excellence.
