New round of PET bottle investment in the world

Thailand’s Indorama Polymers announced last week that it will build a North American region’s largest polyethylene terephthalate (PET) unit in Decatur, Alabama, and expects it to be completed by the end of next year. The PET project will cost 140 million U.S. dollars, which will add 430,000 tons of PET to the U.S. market every year. The United States "Chemical Engineering and News" reported this news last week.
It is alleged that the PET plant to be built by Indorama Polymers will be adjacent to BP's refined terephthalic acid plant in Dekta. At that time, the raw material of terephthalic acid required by the company's PET plant will be supplied by BP.
The bottle market is PET's rapidly growing market. Although Indorama Polymers is not a world-renowned chemical company, the company has now established PET plants in the United States, Europe and Thailand. The company claims to be the eighth largest PET manufacturer in the world. Once the new PET plant in the United States is completed and after the expansion of existing production plants, the company’s ranking will reach the third place in the world.
The world’s number one PET producer is currently the Italian Mossi & Ghisolfi Group. In July this year, the group also announced its investment plan in North America to the outside world: It will build a device with an annual capacity of 800,000 tons in the United States, and will also expand its existing installations in West Virginia and Mexico. The transformation will increase the company's total annual PET capacity by 200,000 tons.
Eastman Chemical Corporation, the world's second-largest PET producer, earlier this year, built a 350,000-ton PET plant in South Carolina in the United States, but the company also stated that it plans to close one at an appropriate time. Same size PET old factory. Eastman recently said to the outside world that the company plans to build another PET plant in the United States in 2009.
Aloke Lohia, president of Indorama Polymers, said that the world still needs to increase more PET production facilities to meet the growing packaging needs of soft drinks, drinking water and other markets. He expects that global PET will be in short supply in 2009, and major companies are currently tending to build factories in the local area to meet demand. He also said that the company has noticed that some of the PET products needed in the West Coast region of the United States are imported from Asia.
