Alberta, Canada Officially Implements "Renewable Fuel Standards"

From April 1, 2011, Alberta, Canada officially implemented the "Renewable Fuel Standard." The new standard requires the province to sell an average of one liter of diesel per year plus 2% of renewable diesel, and one litre of gasoline with 5% alcohol.

The increase in the use of alternative energy and renewable energy in Gaa province is a growing proportion of overall energy consumption. The province is currently the first North American region to implement a “renewable fuel standard” with a view to reducing greenhouse gas emission thresholds. The provincial government said that the use of renewable diesel or alcohol will reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 25% compared to its equivalent petroleum product, and will bring value-added opportunities to the bioenergy field.

The operating mileage of vehicles using hybrid fuels is generally lower than that of ordinary fuels. However, the current mix of “standard” requirements is relatively low, with little difference. Studies have shown that mixed fuel can improve engine performance and reduce engine deflagration. The provincial government explained that the implementation of this standard will affect food prices. Currently, the province's renewable and biofuel production consumes only 1.2% of grain and oilseeds, while also using agriculture, forestry and urban waste. The production of non-food materials, so the impact on food prices is almost zero.

In order to ensure the effective implementation of this standard, the Provincial Government of the Province of the United States has allocated 336 million Canadian dollars in 2011 budget (58 million in 2011-2012) to support the production of bioenergy in the province in the next three years, while investing in a biodiesel blend. Research demonstration projects demonstrating the effectiveness of biodiesel blending in the climate of the province.
