The mine was completed and put into operation in July 1981, using advanced process technology to treat non-oxidized ore and oxidized ore.
Ore properties: deposit containing two ore types, one is a carbonaceous ore, is dark gray to black, mainly pyrite minerals, limestone, or argillaceous limestone silt. The Jerritt Canyon charcoal pulp mill has a production capacity of 2,500 t/d and two parallel charcoal (CIP) processes for the treatment of carbonaceous ores and oxidized ores. Each system has a processing capacity of 1250t/d. The process is shown in the figure.

The ore was crushed to -152mm by a 1066mm × 1219mm simple pendulum jaw crusher , and then a radiant piler was used to pile up the crushed ore on separate silos. The grinding system of the two processes is independent, both of which are closed in two sections, the equipment specifications are the same, all are 4865486mm×2133mm (Ф18呎×7呎), and the 588kW (800 hp) semi- autogenous grinding machine is used for open grinding. The grinding products are respectively fed into the Ф5.72m thickener in the respective processes, and the flocculation agent is not added to the concentration operation. The concentrated slurry was fed into a buffer tank with a residence time of 12 h.
Oxidized pulp enters the 8-tank CIP leaching series. The dissolved gold is adsorbed through the 8-stage carbon. The time required for the slurry to pass through the 8 tanks is 24 h, while the reverse reaction of the activated carbon through the 8 stages is 26 days. The stringer equipment is an air lifter and an outer shaker.
The carbonaceous process is pretreated by oxidation before the slurry enters the CIP loop. In addition, the two processes are generally similar. The patented pretreatment process consists of two parts, an oxidation treatment and a chlorination treatment. The equipment used consists of two heat exchangers, six oxidation treatment tanks and six chlorination treatment tanks, and a chlorine scrubber.
The carbonaceous ore process processes high grade ore (10.29g/t), but its production costs are also very high. Oxidized ore grade is low (6.86g/t). The recovery rates of the two processes are almost equal.
The gold recycling workshop is a computer-controlled batch operation with the ability to desorb 5.4 to 6.3 tons of carbon in 6 to 7 hours. Loaded carbon (4665g / t) in a hot alkaline cyanide solution in the desorption and desorption of zinc powder from the pregnant solution the gold is precipitated. The precipitate is sent to an induction furnace for melting after removing excess fine particles. The desorbed charcoal is pickled to remove salts and is activated by a vertical regeneration kiln and returned to the adsorption loop.
