Landlord gets life in prison for fatal Cicero fire

The Chicago Tribune recently published an article detailing a horrifying case that unfolded earlier this week. A former landlord was handed down a life sentence without the possibility of parole for the brutal murders of seven residents in Cicero, ranging in age from just three days old to 20 years. The tragedy occurred during a fire he allegedly ordered to be set in one of his apartment buildings back in 2010. Cook County Judge Carol Kipperman expressed her deep dissatisfaction with the sentence, stating that she would have pushed for the death penalty had it been an option under Illinois law. “This entire case was nothing short of atrocious,” she remarked at the courthouse in Maywood. “His motives were purely financial. He was desperate for money and decided to take such a reckless course of action.” Lawrence Myers, now 64, showed no visible reaction when the verdict was read out. He was found guilty by a jury last November after a relatively brief deliberation period. The tragic fire broke out on Valentine’s Day in 2010. Prosecutors allege that Myers, heavily in debt at the time, sought to torch his property located on South 48th Court with the intention of collecting a $250,000 insurance payout. To execute this plan, he reportedly hired his maintenance worker, Marion “Andre” Comier, who is currently awaiting trial on similar charges. Comier, 51, allegedly used gasoline to start the blaze on the building's back porch. Unfortunately, what Myers intended as a simple arson spiraled into a deadly disaster. The fire spread rapidly through the four-unit apartment complex, trapping its inhabitants inside. Among the victims were Byron Reed, 20; Sallie Gist, 19; their young sons Rashon Reed, 3, and Brian Reed, just three days old; Sallie’s twin siblings Elijah Gist and Elisha Gist, both 16; and family friend Tiera Davidson, 18. All perished due to carbon monoxide poisoning caused by smoke inhalation. Two days later, authorities received reports from three individuals who claimed they overheard Myers and Comier discussing plans to burn down the building. This revelation added further weight to the prosecution's case against Myers. Following the verdict, many in the community expressed relief that justice was served, though some felt the punishment did not fully reflect the gravity of the crime. Myers’ defense team argued for leniency, citing personal hardships and mental health issues, but these arguments failed to sway the judge or the jury. As the legal proceedings continue, the victims' families are left grappling with unimaginable grief. They hope that this conviction will bring some closure, even as they mourn the loss of loved ones whose lives were cruelly cut short. For now, Myers remains behind bars, serving a life sentence that ensures he will never see freedom again. *Thanks, Dan.*

Ammonia cracker

Ammonia cracker of XRAQ(FC)series takes liquid ammonia as the source material ,and when heated, decomposes into the mixed gas of 75% H2 and25% N2 under the action of catalyst.

Some of the usages of Ammonia cracker of XRAQ series:

1) It is used as the protective gas in the furnace which produces and processes the black metal, on-ferrous metal, metal plate, strip, wire material tubing and standard parts of machinery.

2) It is used as the shielding gas of tinning bath in the float glass production.

3) It is applied to the sintering circuit of cemented carbide and powder metallurgy.

4) It is applied to the sintering of high-temperature refractory (such as silicon carbide, silicon nitride)

5) It is used as the reducing gas in chemical industry.

6) It is used for deoxidization by hydrogenation in the nitrogen purification.

The Advancement of XRAQ(FC) series:

1)Low cost:Device of XRAQ(FC)series is an easy way to get the mixed gas of N2 and H2.Compared with hydrogen generation device by water electrolysis, it possesses the advantage of low investment, simple structure and easy operation.

2)Reliable Performance: Temperature is controlled by automatic temperature controller; flow rate is regulated by valves; no need of specially trained operators; stable gas can be get consecutively.

3) High quality catalyst, stainless steel that is heat and corrosion resistant, nickel chrome electric heating element are selected to use, which prolongs the service life.

4) Strong technological team and high-quality after-sale service. When installed on spot, the only thing to do is to connect the gas source and power. Excellent electrical and mechanical assembly technology; Continuous technical services are provided; Responsible for on-site commissioning and training.
