Rapid development of micro-nephropathy rapid biochemical analyzer
Recently, the National 863B Project "Research on Rapid Detection Microsystems of Typical Diseases," jointly led by the Changchun Institute of Optics and Fine Mechanics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Xiamen Ouda Science and Technology Co., Ltd., has successfully passed the evaluation by the 863 expert group under the Ministry of Science and Technology. This marks a significant milestone in China's efforts to develop advanced diagnostic technologies.
Over the past 18 months, the project team worked diligently to create China's first miniature biochemical analyzer specifically designed for rapid detection of kidney diseases. They have completed small-scale production of the device and obtained a production license for its core component—the miniature spectrometer. The prototype underwent a total of 700 clinical trials across four hospitals in different regions of China. The results showed that the device's performance is comparable to imported large-scale biochemical analyzers.
The instrument is compact, cost-effective, user-friendly, and capable of performing multiple biochemical tests within the wavelength range of 340 to 750 nm. Its potential applications extend beyond clinical settings, offering promising opportunities for home use and point-of-care testing.
During the development process, the team introduced innovative microfabrication techniques, including the creation of silicon-based heating chips, polymer micro-optical alignment chips, and silicon fiber slits—marking the first time these components were developed in this field. These advancements enabled mass production of critical parts. The symmetrical design of the microspectrometer simplified the optical path, reduced the overall size, enhanced performance, and significantly lowered both the cost and production time of the device. This breakthrough represents a major step forward in the development of affordable and efficient diagnostic tools.
