Working fire in Chicago, 1-6-17

Here's a report from Eric Haak:

At around 0700 hours on Friday morning (January 6th), the Chicago Fire Department’s 24th Battalion responded to a working fire at a two-story frame home located on the 13400 block of South Carondolet Avenue. The fire was visibly coming out of the rear windows on the first floor and a door on the "D" side of the house. This area had very limited access, as it was only a few feet away from a commercial building. The hydrant directly in front of the home wasn’t functioning—whether due to freezing or another issue remained unclear. As a result, Engine 97 had to connect to a hydrant further down the block on 134th Street to get water. Meanwhile, Engine 104 was held in reserve. Fortunately, all residents, including the family dog, managed to escape the home safely without any injuries.

The scene was quite intense, especially given the early hour. Firefighters worked quickly to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to the nearby commercial structure. It’s clear that their quick response and coordination made a big difference in keeping the situation under control. The community is grateful for the efforts of the firefighters and the safe outcome for everyone involved.
