ExxonMobil Kawasaki butyl rubber expansion

ExxonMobil Chemical's Japanese affiliate ExxonMobil Co., Ltd. (EMYK) recently announced that Japan Butyl Co., Ltd. has completed a major capacity expansion project for its Kawasaki butyl rubber plant. After this transformation, the production capacity of Kawasaki butyl rubber plant will increase by 18,000 tons/year, and the total production capacity will reach 98,000 tons/year.
ExxonMobil Chemical is committed to meeting the ever-increasing demand for butyl rubber, and this expansion is part of its action plan, demonstrating the latest progress in ExxonMobil's process technology. For example, the new proprietary technology used in the device allows the polymerization of butyl rubber to be carried out at -75[deg.]C, whereas conventional techniques are performed at -95[deg.]C. This will significantly reduce energy consumption and save investment.
In order to continue to meet the growing demand in the butyl rubber industry, ExxonMobil Chemical has recently implemented a series of energy expansion projects. In 2006, Japan Butyl Rubber Co., Ltd. increased the capacity of its Kashima halogenated butyl rubber plant by 17,000 tons/year; in 2008, ExxonMobil Chemical's production capacity of its halogenated butyl rubber plant in Bay Pond, Texas Increased by 60% on the original basis.
