July 28, China Xinxin Shanxi Net — In a significant move, Shanxi Automobile Industry Group Co., Ltd. has undergone reorganization with the collaboration of China Southern Automobile Industry Group and the Taiyuan Municipal Government. On July 26, Yin Jiaxu, Deputy Secretary of the Party Group and Deputy General Manager of China North Industries Group Corporation, as well as President of Industrial Automotive Co., Ltd., visited Taiyuan. He announced that after the official launch of the Southern Auto Heavy Truck Project in the city, the first batch of heavy-duty vehicles will be rolled out this year.
It is reported that Shanxi is the largest province in terms of automobile and auto parts sales. During low and peak periods, the sales of heavy-duty vehicles reached 20,000 and 35,000 units respectively. However, for a long time, Shanxi lacked its own automotive brand. In response, the Taiyuan Municipal Government pledged full support for Taiyuan Southern Auto’s independent intellectual property rights. The goal is to transform the province's market advantage into an economic development opportunity and to establish a strong local brand in Shanxi.
Yin Jiaxu emphasized that since the contract was signed, all restructuring work at SAIC Motor has proceeded smoothly. Issues such as mechanism transformation and debt settlement have been handled in an orderly manner. The construction of the new factory area is progressing well, and the first batch of heavy trucks is expected to roll off the production line this year. These vehicles will initially target the domestic market in Shanxi. After stabilizing the local market, within three years, Taiyuan Southern Auto plans to introduce a new category of heavy-duty vehicles, aiming to expand the reach of Shanxi-made trucks nationwide.
To help Shanxi build a car with a strong brand identity, on July 26, the Taiyuan Municipal Government and Southern Auto jointly held a press conference. They launched a public naming campaign, offering a reward of 70,000 yuan for contributions. The event aimed to find a name and design icon for the new vehicle. According to the announcement, the deadline for submissions is August 25. Participants can submit their suggestions via SMS, mail, or email.
