Tangshan Iron and Steel Co., Ltd. successfully developed new steel grades for sucker rods

Recently, the newly developed 25MnVYD sucker rod steel grade by Tangshan Iron and Steel Co., Ltd. has successfully passed fatigue performance testing at China University of Petroleum. The key performance indicators fully meet the requirements set by the D-class sucker rod steel standard established by China National Petroleum Corporation. This achievement is a crucial step toward obtaining the necessary certification for mass market entry. The successful development of this steel grade marks a significant technological breakthrough for Tangshan, making it the second company in China to master this advanced technology. This innovation not only opens up new market opportunities but also enhances competitiveness and helps reduce production costs. Sucker rod steel is a specialized material used primarily in the manufacturing of sucker rods for oil extraction. Traditionally, domestic producers have relied on 20CrMoA, a conventional steel grade. However, the high cost of ferromolybdenum has made this material expensive to produce. In response, Tangshan Iron and Steel prioritized the research and development of new sucker rod steel grades as a major technical project this year. A dedicated team was formed, with clear goals and strategies to tackle the challenges involved. Technical staff conducted extensive field research across various sucker rod production plants and oil fields to better understand market demands and user expectations. Based on this in-depth analysis, they quickly completed the selection of the appropriate steel type and designed an efficient production process. Laboratory experiments were carried out, and through continuous optimization of the chemical composition and hot rolling procedures, the new steel grade was successfully developed. This effort not only demonstrates the company's strong R&D capabilities but also highlights its commitment to innovation and cost-effective solutions in the oil industry.
