Autodesk Announces Powerful New Model Coordination Workflow for BIM and VDC Managers
SAN RAFAEL, Calif., Sept. 22, 2020 /PRNewswire/ — Autodesk, Inc. (NASDAQ: ADSK) has introduced a groundbreaking integration between two of its leading tools—Navisworks and BIM 360 Model Coordination. This new model coordination workflow is designed to streamline the construction process by enabling teams to manage clash detection, issue tracking, and resolution within a single, unified platform. By combining the strengths of both solutions, Autodesk Construction Cloud now offers a more cohesive and efficient approach to managing complex construction projects.
This integration allows construction professionals to automate clash detection directly within BIM 360 Model Coordination, while also enabling users to create and assign issues from either Navisworks or BIM 360. The result is a more collaborative environment where design teams, contractors, and trade partners can work together seamlessly, reducing delays, minimizing rework, and improving the accuracy of construction documents.
Nick Bobbitt, VDC Manager at Barton Malow, shared his insights: “With this integrated workflow, everyone involved in the project—from the field to the office—can actively participate in tracking and resolving issues throughout the entire project lifecycle. It’s making model coordination a team effort, even for those who aren’t experts in clash detection. This level of transparency adds real value for our clients.â€
The new workflow also empowers non-expert team members to engage in the model coordination process. Designers and trades can perform real-time clash detection, while BIM leaders can focus on high-impact constructability challenges. For instance, if a structural team identifies an issue in BIM 360, they can assign it directly to their team for resolution. The same issue can then be analyzed in greater depth using Navisworks, where specific rules and expert input can uncover additional problems that might otherwise go unnoticed.
Sameer Merchant, Head of Product Development at Autodesk Construction Solutions, emphasized the importance of this integration: “Avoiding costly rework starts with identifying design issues before construction begins. This integration between Navisworks and BIM 360 creates a powerful workflow that supports the entire model coordination process from one platform. It’s another step forward in helping construction teams deliver better outcomes, faster.â€
The integration is now available for all users. To learn more about the new features and how they can benefit your workflow, visit the official blog post here. You can also explore the other 25 product updates announced today as part of the Autodesk Construction Cloud portfolio.
